Xavi Taele is a versatile mid-field back who can also play on the wing if required. He attended Saint Kentigern College in Auckland and has been part of the Blues development system for several years. 

Taele represented the Blues at Under-17 and 18 level before captaining the Blues Under-20 team at the national tournament.  

In the 2023-2024 season, Xavi trained with the main Blues squad as one of our National Development Contracts where he gained valuable insight into how the team operated on a daily basis. 

Taele was part of the New Zealand Under 20s side who travelled to South Africa for World Under 20s Championships in June-July of 2024. 

He returned home to join the Auckland squad for the NPC and was quickly thrust into a starting role in at centre where he excelled.  

Taele’s ability to read the game, cool head under pressure and decisive option taking skills were all on show for Auckland earning him a full Blues playing contract for the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season. 

Xavi is contracted with the Blues through until the end of the 2025 season.
