TAUFA FUNAKI

Taufa is a halfback out of Sacred Heart College in Auckland. He was selected in the 2018 New Zealand Under 20s side along with fellow Blues team-mate Zarn Sullivan. 

A proud East Aucklander, Taufa joined the Blues on the back of two years in the Auckland NPC set up. A capable and quick halfback, with a mind for attack, Funaki was awarded his debut for the Blues in the 2023 season and provided excellent back up off the bench for Finlay Christie with Sam Nock out injured.  

The Blues 2024 championship season was somewhat of a breakout year for Funaki. He made 13 appearances including an extended spell in the starting nine jersey. His eye for a gap was evident in 2024, scoring five tries including a double against the Western Force. Funaki is fast becoming a fan favourite for his fun try scoring celebrations and love of pro wrestling.    

With Taufa coming of age in 2024, the Blues have three genuine halfback options heading into the 2025 season and along with Nock and Christie the trio will continue to push each other for the starting jersey. 

Taufa is contracted with the Blues through until the end of the 2026 season.
