Payton is a fullback who joins the Blues for his first full contract in 2025 having previously been involved with the Blues at Under-18 level. 

Spencer carries a surname that Blues fans will be familiar with, his father Carlos was the foundation first-five for the club, notching up 99 caps for the Blues. 

After graduating from Hamilton Boy’s High School, Payton was in Mount Maunganui as part of the All Blacks Sevens programme and tasted success on the Sydney leg of the circuit. 

He plays his provincial rugby for Auckland but shoulder surgery has seen him sit on the sidelines for the 2024 NPC campaign. 

Payton is contracted with the Blues through until the end of the 2026 season.
