Promising young prop Joshua Fusitu’a enters his third year as a contracted Blues player in 2025.
Fusitu’a, a West Auckland product, came through Auckland Grammar into the Auckland Academy and Blues development programmes. He also plays for the Grammar TEC club in Auckland.
The Fusitu’a family are no strangers to the New Zealand sporting landscape, with Joshua’s older brother David representing New Zealand and Tonga in rugby league along with a lengthy career at the Warriors before moving to the Leeds Rhinos in England.
Joshua who stands 1.83m tall and weighs 118kg was selected for the New Zealand Under 20s in 2021 although the Covid-19 pandemic restricted the team to a domestic programme.
He came into the Blues as a replacement player in 2022, making his debut against Moana Pasifika.
After sporadically featuring in the Blues 2023 campaign, Fusitu’a was asked to step up in 2024 after the departures of experienced props Nepo Laulala and Alex Hodgman.
Fusitu’a rose to the challenge, featuring in all but two of the Blues’ matches in the 2024 championship season, earning his 20-game blazer along the way. His impact off the bench gave an evident lift to the scrum throughout the year.
Fusitu’a heads into 2025 as a young prop on the rise and under the tutelage of experienced heads Ofa Tu’ungafasi and Angus Ta’avao will no doubt continue to grow in the season ahead.
Joshua is contracted with the Blues through until the end of the 2025 season.
