SUPERCHARGED SUPER ROUND MELBOURNE 2023
The biggest weekend of rugby is back in 2023 with Super Round Melbourne presented by Fiji Airways at AAMI Park.
From Friday, March 3 to Sunday, March 5, 2023, Melbourne will become a hub of entertainment, culture and sport with the 2023 edition set to bring the super-to-Super Round.
All 12 Super Rugby Pacific teams will light up Melbourne throughout the 2023 edition of Super Round Melbourne with double headers played on every day of the round.
Super Round Melbourne will be a supercharged weekend of more than just rugby with thousands of sports fans set to descend on AAMI Park for not only the on-field action but also the experience off the field with live entertainment, interactive experiences, food trucks from across NZ, Australia and the Pacific and live music highlighted by a special performance from the Fabulous Caprettos featuring Darryl Braithwaite.
One of the best spots to take in the rugby and the atmosphere all weekend long will be at Budgy Beach situated above the halfway line. The Budgy Beach brought to you by Budgy Smuggler will boast a near-perfect view of all six matches with giveaways and prizes to be won all weekend long.
The opening night will see 2022 Super Rugby Pacific Champions, the Crusaders play the Highlanders in the first game of the round, followed by the home side Melbourne Rebels against the Hurricanes.
The AAMI Park precinct will become a dancefloor on Friday evening with party starters KLP and Stace Cadet pumping their energetic tunes throughout the night that will bring the area to life.
The electric atmosphere will continue into Saturday with the Pasifika Festival taking place in and around the ground. We all know the party vibes the Pasifika will bring with the fans, traditional food, modern dance performance and a live performance from Australian hip hop band HP Boyz. This is one day you won't want to miss.
On the turf, Moana Pasifika will get their chance to play their first Super Round fixture against last year’s semi-finalists the Chiefs before the Fijian Drua play the NSW Waratahs.
Throughout the weekend, players from several Super Rugby Pacific sides will be available for a selfie and an autograph, a unique chance to meet the best of the best in rugby.
The final doubleheader on Sunday will see a repeat of last year’s epic semi-final encounter between the Blues and the Brumbies before an all-Australian affair between the Western Force and the Queensland Reds.
The final day of the round at AAMI Park will also host the ultimate Sunday Session with The Fabulous Caprettos performing some of Australian rock music’s most memorable hits.
Aria Hall-of-Famers, Daryl Braithwaite and Russell Morris join forces with music giants Jack Jones (Southern Sons) and Rai Thistlethwayte (Thirsty Merc) to perform their greatest hits for what promises to be an extraordinary day.
Don't miss your chance to witness Melbourne when it becomes the Home of Super Rugby Pacific for one weekend only!
“As Australia's major events capital, Melbourne knows how to put on a show and next year’s Super Round Melbourne is going to be an epic weekend of sport, music, and entertainment,” said Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos.
“We look forward to welcoming thousands of fans from Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific for this super-charged event.”
Fiji Airways Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mr Andre Viljoen says Fiji’s National Carrier is excited about Super Round Melbourne.
“It’s shaping up to be a festival that will be the highlight of the 2023 Super Rugby season, and we are elated to be a part of it. Super Rugby is the most closely followed and loved international franchise for Fijians and so this partnership is a win for all of us. We are already sponsors to two teams in the competition and any opportunity to leverage our presence is welcomed.”
