BLUES TO CELEBRATE THE PACIFIC

The Blues are set to celebrate the Pacific this weekend, as they take on Moana Pasifika in a vibrant day of rugby and culture at Eden Park.

In addition to the on-field action, fans can enjoy a free Pacific Festival on the Eden Park Outer Oval. The festival will feature Pacific food, market stalls, community activities and live performances, offering something for the whole whānau to enjoy.

Entry is free with the festival to run from 10am - 3pm on Eden Park Outer Oval, before the Blues kickoff at 4.35pm. The men’s match will be followed by the final of Super Rugby Aupiki between the nib Blues and Matatū at 7.05pm.

Blues CEO Andrew Hore says the event is about recognising and celebrating the club’s deep connection to Pasifika communities.

“We are a club that represents the most multi-cultural region in New Zealand,” said Hore.

“Pasifika communities have been integral to the development and success of this club, from fans to coaches to players. This is about us demonstrating and celebrating our connection with Pasifika communities as a big part of the Blues since our start.”

Hore says Saturday will be one of the most exciting match day experiences of the year.

“We’ve got a vibrant Pacific Festival during the day, followed by the Blues vs Moana Pasifika clash, and then to finish it all off, our nib Blues will take the field in the final of Super Rugby Aupiki.

“The weather’s looking great and we’re calling on our fans to come along, show their support, and enjoy what will be a fantastic day out.”

The organisation is also proud to support the Pasifika Rugby Hall of Fame in collaboration with the Blues, which will host its second annual inductee dinner this Thursday, April 10. The Hall of Fame honours and celebrates the rich sporting heritage and legacy of Pacific Island rugby.
