ONE POINT IS ENOUGH
Phew. We made it. As Leon MacDonald said after the game, one point is enough in a final.
So for the first time since 2003 the Blues are into a Super Rugby final when we meet the Crusaders at Eden Park this Saturday, with a 7.05pm kick-off.
It was a topsy-turvy match where we gained the ascendency in the first half, and scored two stunning tries to Hoskins Sotutu and Mark Telea.
We knew the Brumbies were a quality team and were not going to lie-down – and so it proved in the second half.
We had to dig deep, and trust our defence which has been great all year, with Akira, Hoskins and Tom Robinson all with double figures for tackles.
On the other side Beauden ran for 106m, with the next best from either side being 60m by AJ Lam and Rieko. The team carried for 443m compared to 250m for the Brumbies, and the defenders beaten was 31 to 10.
Oh and yes there was that amazing charge down from Ofa which was pretty handy at the finish.
We have earned the right to the big dance. This was our 15th straight win of the season – which is the most wins in a row in the history of the Blues.
The win equals the longest unbeaten streak.
A win this week would cement this Blues team as the most successful in Blues history – and earn the inaugural Super Rugby Pacific Trophy.
