BLUES CHARITY MATCH TO SUPPORT FUTURE LEADERS

The Blues are looking to make a major impact both on and off the field as they take on the Hurricanes in a double header charity match at Eden Park this Saturday, April 5th.

The matches will see the nib Blues play the Hurricanes Poua at 4.35pm, followed by the Blues and Hurricanes at 7.05pm. The games will also serve as a platform to raise funds for the Blues Charitable Trust (BCT), an organisation dedicated to empowering rangatahi (young people) across Auckland.

The BCT was launched in 2022 and was the brainchild of Blues Captain and All Black Patrick Tuipulotu who wanted to give back to the community and help to develop the leaders of tomorrow.

The trust runs a 12-month programme for the students which sees them spend time at Blues HQ, taking part in workshops, mentorship, and career-building opportunities designed to develop their leadership qualities.

This year around 450 teenagers from more than 50 schools are taking part in the programme. A number of the Blues players are involved with the programme and spend time working with the students, talking about their own experiences and how they’ve overcome challenges.

“We’re trying to help young people to make good decisions and help them make a good life for themselves,” said Tuipulotu.

“It’s amazing to see how this has grown. Plenty of kids come through the programme and the more people we help, the better we’re going to make our communities. We’re really proud of the programme and just want it to get bigger and better.”

Saturday’s double header is an opportunity to assist the BCT with its important work. Fans are able to contribute directly through online donations, donations at the stadium, and through an auction with three great, money-can’t-buy Blues experiences.

“This is about coming together as a community to support the next generation,” said BCT General Manager Rob Woodley.

“The Blues Charitable Trust is doing incredible mahi to uplift our young people, and we’re proud to use this platform to raise awareness and funds for this important work.”
