Beauden Barrett joined the Blues in 2020, making his debut against his former Super Rugby team - the Hurricanes in an epic afternoon encounter on Eden Park.

After playing most of his rugby at first-five, in recent seasons Barrett has proven not only to be a world-class pivot but is equally capable at fullback in a dual playmaker role.

In his time at the Blues, Barrett has been generous in sharing his knowledge and experience with younger players in the squad.

Beauden has a long list of achievements throughout his rugby career and was a key member of the 2015 Rugby World Cup winning team.

He won the World Rugby Player of the Year award in 2016 and 2017, was also a nominee for the award in 2018. He is only the second player to win the gong in back-to-back years.

The Taranaki native made his debut for his home province in 2010 before making his first Super Rugby appearance for the Hurricanes the next year in 2011. After 125 games and a Super Rugby title in the Capital, Barrett and his family made the move north.

Barrett has developed his game further with two separate stints in Japan, first at Suntory Sungoliath in 2021 and then Toyota Verblitz in 2024.

He returns to the Blues for the 2025 season off the back of some impressive form for the All Blacks in the June tests against England and in The Rugby Championship.

Beauden is contracted with the Blues through until the end of the 2027 season.
