Adrian Choat is a flanker born and bred in West Auckland. A product of Liston College and the proud Waitemata Rugby Football club, famous for producing the likes of Sir Michael Jones, Sione Lauaki and current Blues Assistant Coach - Craig McGrath.
Choat played for the New Zealand Under 20s in 2017 before making his NPC debut for Auckland in 2018. He spent a brief stint in the UK with Bristol Bears as injury cover before returning to Auckland in 2020, spending an extended period of time with the Blues as an injury replacement player without taking the field.
In 2021 Choat made his Super Rugby debut for the Blues against the Hurricanes in Wellington. He went on to make five appearances during the 2021 season, scoring his first try for the Blues against the Chiefs at Eden Park in Round 10 of Super Rugby Aotearoa.
Choat’s 2023 Super Rugby season was somewhat of a breakout year where he was a fixture in the loose forward trio, staking his claim on the number six jersey. His defensive efforts and work at the breakdown were especially evident in the ‘23 season and Choat was acknowledged for his sensational year being named ‘Blues Forward of the Year’ for the season.
Adrian was part of the highly competitive loose-forward unit in the 2024 championship winning season for the Blues. Although injury somewhat hampered his involvement at times, Choat always brought his physical presence on defence throughout the season and came off the bench in the Super Rugby Pacific Final.
Choat starts 2025 on 45 Blues caps and will be hoping to reach his 50 game milestone in the coming season.
Adrian is contracted with the Blues through until the end of the 2025 season.
