Train like the Blues

You are invited to take part in the RuFIT study. RuFIT is a programme for male rugby fans interested in improving their health, and is delivered through the Blues rugby club.
How it works

The RuFIT programme will be run over a period of 12 weeks, starting on April 11th, 2015.

Participants will be required to attend two morning sessions per week (on Saturdays and Wednesdays). Saturday mornings will consist of a short (30 minute) ‘classroom’ session, during which topics on healthy eating, physical activity, and weight loss will be covered. The remainder of the time (45 minutes) will be run by a Blues trainer, and will consist of a ‘pitch-side’ physical activity programme.
On Wednesdays, the trainer will run a 75-minute gym session. Participants will also need to attend an introductory session (April 11th), during which measurements (e.g. height, weight, fitness) will be taken and some quick questionnaires completed. Similar measures will also be repeated on the last day of the programme.
Smartphone sensors, with an integrated feature to geographically locate a person’s position, will be used to measure and understand where and how people move around and their use of existing services promoting health (i.e. walkways, bicycle lanes, public transport and green areas/parks).
All participants will receive a $20 voucher at the beginning of the programme and another $20 voucher on completion of the programme to compensate them for their time. The programme will be run out of the Blues training facilities at Unitec, Carrington Road, Mt Albert.

Why should you participate?
You will receive an individually tailored ‘pitch-side’ physical activity programme delivered by Blues’ trainers, as well helpful lifestyle information. You will also get to be part of a ‘team’ of similar men who are also part of the study.

What will I have to do?
You’ll complete a 12-week healthy lifestyle programme, which will be run by a Blues Trainer. There will be two sessions per week, and each session will be 75 minutes long. The sessions will take place at the Blues training facilities at Unitec, Carrington Rd, Mt Albert.
Am I eligible?
If you are male, aged 18 years or more, and want to lose weight and be healthier, then you may be eligible to participate in the study.
