This Saturday 120 primary school students from across Auckland, North Harbour and Northland will get the chance to play at Eden Park as part of the Auckland Primary Schools RIPPA Challenge Cup and Blues RIPPA Challenge tomorrow.
Round robin play will kick off on the Eden Park number 2 ground and all finals will be played on the main ground as the curtain raiser to the Blues match against the Melbourne Rebels.
Auckland Rugby Community Rugby Development Manager Chris Owen said it is an exciting opportunity for young players.
“Thanks must go to Eden Park for allowing us to hold these games at the ground on Saturday ñ it will be a night to remember for all players and their families,” said Owen.
Last term each area in Auckland, North Harbour and Northland had their respective qualifying tournaments to find those that would compete this weekend.
Defending Auckland Challenge Cup Champions are back in both grades to compete for their titles, Mt Eden Normal in the girl’s grade and Holy Cross School Papatoetoe in the mixed grade.
The Blues RIPPA Challenge is a new concept and this year will see the first ever Blues RIPPA Champions crowned.
“Introducing this challenge is a chance to reward some great school teams from across the franchise with the opportunity to play at the home of the Blues: Eden Park,” said Owen.
Games start at 4pm Saturday afternoon on Eden Park No 2 and all final placing and grand final matches will be played on Eden Park No 1 starting at 6pm.
