Edwards made his Blues debut in 2015 against the Rebels and plays both flanker and number 8 for Auckland Rugby.

He captained the St Kentigern College First XV and was a member of the New Zealand Under 20 team in 2013. Following on from this, Edwards gained further international honours in 2015 with selection for the Maori All Blacks. He’s been a member of the Blues’ squad since 2013.

At the end of the 2016 season, Joe took up a contract with Bordeaux in France.
