James Parsons continues to be a talisman in the Blues, wringing every ounce out of himself with an outstandingly professional approach in more than 100 games for the club.
The North Harbour centurion was Educated at Kings College in Auckland. James was selected for North Harbour in 2007 and has now played more than 100 games for the province. He was selected for the Blues Wider Training Group in 2012 and debuted for the Blues that year against the Highlanders. By 2013, Parsons had become a first team regular. James earned his first All Blacks cap against Scotland on the All Blacks end of year tour in 2014.
He took over the captaincy from an injured Jerome Kaino early in 2016 Super Rugby season and retained the role off the back of some assured performances. The captaincy suited James, with the hooker earning the Blues season award for Most Valuable Player as well as another All Blacks call up.
It is notable that James has played all of his games for the Blues club. Since his debut in 2012, James has been the ultimate team and club man, always representing the Blues with 100% commitment through relentless effort and leadership.
James’ consistency and form for the Blues and North Harbour saw him earn well deserved caps for the All Blacks in 2014 and again in 2016.
In 2016 James was awarded Blues Player of the Year. Only 1% of the Blues can claim both Player of the Year and Centurion status i.e. 3 players out of 300 capped Blues have achieved both. The ultimate achievement for James would be to claim a championship title thus making him the only Blues player to have all 3 achievements to his name.
James has re-signed for 2 more years which will see him with the Blues through to the end of 2021.
