Augustine was born in Otahuhu and attended Wesley College before joining Counties Manukau in 2010. Augustine debuted against Otago alongside his now coach, Tana Umaga. He played a key role in their promotion triumph in 2012 as well as their historic Ranfurly Shield success. He signed with the Chiefs in 2012, where he played over 50 times and won 2 Super Rugby titles.
He earned two caps for the All Blacks in 2014 as well as representing New Zealand at the Rio Olympics in 2016. In 2017 Augustine came back north of the Bombays to the Blues playing 15 times in his first season with the club, defeating the British & Irish Lions as well as earning a spot in the Barbarians team to play the Wallabies on their end of year tour.
In 2018 Augustine was named as captain of the Blues adding a further 9 Blues caps to his name, a responsibility he handled with great heart and desire. Injury sidelined him for the middle six games of the season which proved a disruption to his own game and we never saw the hard-running best from Pulu on the field. At the end of the 2018 season, Augustine left for the newly promoted Hino Red Dolphins in the Japanese Top Challenge League.
In 2019 Augustine returned to the Blues family, bringing his sharp pass, aggressive running and fierce defending to a backline packed with talent.
Augustine left the club to return to Japan at the end of 2019 with a total of 37 Blues caps.
