The Blues will have an early test of their depth with three players receiving significant injuries from the opening game of Investec Super Rugby.
Hooker Ray Niuia has a season-ending knee injury that will require surgery while prop Alex Hodgman and winger Rieko Ioane will be out of action for several weeks. Hodgman has a calf tear while Ioane, who scored two tries in the game, has fractured his hand.
On the plus side, centurion James Parsons may be available for his season debut this week if selected after off-season injury while Otere Black is close to full fitness after a rib injury in pre-season.
Halfback Finlay Christie is also close to a return to play from a neck injury; while forwards Gerard Cowley-Tuioti and Waimana Riedlinger-Kapa will return next month, as will lock James Tucker from a knee injury.
