Blues open home for first pre-season game

The Blues first pre-season game against the Hurricanes in February will be a home game, in every sense.

We’re opening the gates and inviting families to the Blues Big Day Out on Saturday 4 February. The event, starting at midday, will be held at the Blues High Performance Centre at Alexandra Park, with the Blues vs Hurricanes match being the first hosted at our own facility.

What’s more, we’re inviting Aucklanders to celebrate the Waitangi holiday weekend with us free of charge.

The Blues Big Day Out, brought to you by the BNZ, will be an afternoon of live music, food, fun games for the whole family and giveaways from our partners.

“We value family at the club and see this as a chance to open our doors to our supporters to enjoy a relaxed afternoon of entertainment for the whole family,” said Blues head coach Tana Umaga.

“It will be our first hit out of the year. This will probably be a four-quarter game with both teams giving game-time for their whole squads.

“The result itself is not as important as it is to give the players a chance to get back into the swing of things with our systems, and for our new players to meld into the Blues way.

“And as is always the case with our pre-season game against the Hurricanes, it’s bound to provide plenty of great running rugby.”

The match itself, sponsored by Westie Pies, will kick off at 2:30pm.

More detail will follow closer to the time, with main parking and access from the Blues High Performance Centre off Campbell Crescent in Epsom.
