Blues A finish season with draw

A 24-all draw against Chiefs A on Friday before Round 7’s Blues v Chiefs game marked the conclusion of the Blues A programme for 2016.

Blues players have had significant representation on the Blues A team, alongside 17 leading provincial players from Northland (5), North Harbour (5) and Auckland (7). The A team won games against the Chiefs and Hurricanes, before the final draw against the Chiefs.

The Blues dominated the first half on Friday, leading 17-0 at the break. The second half saw a good fight back from the Chiefs and overwhelming Chiefs possession, pulling the home side up to a 17-19 lead. A try from both teams levelled the score at 24-all after 80 minutes.

The A game saw season debuts for Dalton Papali’i, Jamie Lane, Jono Hickey, Tom McHugh and Will Talataina Mu. Also making his debut was Blues wing Afa Fa’atau, who has worked extremely hard to overcome a stress fracture and enjoyed a busy and destructive 40 minutes.
