The Blues Development team continued their impressive form with a dominant 45-21 victory over Samoa Under 20 and Waitakere Stadium last night.
Winger Filipo Nakosi scored three of the Blues seven tries, while number 8 Ari Hunt was a dominant force throughout the match, and ably supported by his fellow forwards.
Samoa had the early territorial advantage, but with the Blues disrupting their ball and line out and scrum time they struggled to capitalise.
When the Blues finally got some go forward ball they made easy metres down the left hand flank and it was only some desperate cover defence that stopped a try.
Using their scrum dominance to full advantage, the Blues opted to pack down after a penalty five metres from the line and flanker Zac Judge powered over for the first points of the game.
First five-eighths Daniel Hawkins converted for the 7 nil lead.
Samoa bounced back immediately, progressing quickly to the try line from kick off and powering over out wide, their converted try drawing the scores level.
The tries kept rolling in, Blues halfback Junior Poluleuligaga sending a sniping pass out to Melani Nanai on the wing who went in untouched.
Moments later the Blues went over in the same corner, this time Bram Egli the benefactor of an overlap, taking the Blues lead to 19-7.
With just minutes left in the half, Samoa demonstrated their ability to counter attack, with two tries in two minutes giving them the half time lead.
The first saw the ball stripped in the tackle from a Blues player, the second an intercept. Both were converted for the 21-19 half time lead.
That was to be it for the plucky Samoan team however, as the Blues ran in four unanswered tries in the second spell to secure the comprehensive victory.
Nanai went in for his second, again receiving a great ball from Poluleuligaga. The final three tries all went to winger Filipo Nakosi, as he showed a range of skills in his hat-trick.
The Blues Development team have the final match of their campaign on June 18 against Cook Islands.
