BEST & FAIREST (Selected by Mediaworks)
5 Points: Jerome Kaino
Captain Fantastic – another inspirational effort that deserved a better outcome. Some bone-crunching tackles, plenty of powerful runs and rewarded with excellent try from a telling scrum.
3 Points: Brendon O’Conner
Another stellar display ñ hard-working when on the back foot ball and providing the key link with the backs in the open. Strong and non-stop display.
1 Point: Jamison Gibson-Park
Blazer game and first start ñ he sparked some speed from the breakdown and intelligent kicking game.
WHAT THE COACH HAD TO SAY:
We can’t buy a trick. It’s about those small moments, we had our chances and didn’t take them. Over all though, I thought it was a better performance from us tonight but that doesn’t make the result any easier.
Sir John Kirwan
WHAT THE PLAYERS HAD TO SAY:
There were times late in the first half when I thought we were well on top and thought we had our chances in the second half too. We played with more structure, but in the end we just made two or three crucial mistakes at both ends of the field.
Jerome Kaino
