Best Foot Forward is a program to gift recycled rugby boots to youngsters who might otherwise miss out on playing rugby.

One in three New Zealand children live in poverty and cost is the biggest barrier to children playing sport. We don’t want youngsters to miss out on the joys of team sport because of financial reasons. So, our players are actively involved in collecting pre-loved boots, cleaning them, and passing them on to those in need.  We do this via clubs and schools in our region.

Since the program began in 2017, we’ve gifted more than 700 pairs of boots to young people in our region, thanks to generous donations from our rugby community and the public.

Best Foot Forward is also one of the ways we reach out to young people to encourage them to strive to be their best, and never give up on their goals. You can follow the Blues’ visits to clubs and schools on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and share your own photos and stories using #BluesBFF

You’d like to make a donation? We’d love to hear from you.

Do you have old boots kicking around at home? We’d love to take them off your hands. We’re seeking donations of pre-loved rugby boots in good condition – any size, any brand.

You can drop your pre-loved boots in our collection bin at the Blues training facility in Epsom, Auckland. Please give them a clean, tie them together in pairs, and if you know what size they are, pop a note inside one of the boots to let us know.

If you have a large quantity of boots to donate, give us a call on 09 846 5425 to arrange a pick up.

What happens next?

The Blues will spruce up the boots, lace them with new blue laces, pop them in a new boot bag and send them to pre-registered clubs and schools to pass on to those in need.
